A specially commissioned oil painting on canvas captures Horatio Nelson's essence in the style of Guy Head.

Nelson, serving as Rear-Admiral during the Battle of the Nile from August 1st to 3rd, 1798, stands alongside a midshipman as they present the French admiral's sword wrapped in a captured French flag, symbolizing the victorious moment.

This portrait commemorates one of English naval history's most pivotal victories, marking the climax of a Mediterranean campaign spanning three months. Guy Head based his portrayal on life studies conducted after meeting Nelson in Naples following the event.

While the portrait accurately portrays Nelson's lost arm, it otherwise depicts him unscathed. He should have been depicted with a bandaged forehead due to the severe wounds he sustained. The original painting is part of the primary collection at the National Portrait Gallery.
